Frequently Asked Questions
Questions are welcome. Starting should feel clear.
Whether you are returning to exercise, managing pain, exploring membership options or simply unsure where to begin, you will find answers to our most common questions below.

Getting Started
Start with a complimentary initial consultation. It is a relaxed conversation about your goals, health history, previous exercise experiences, current challenges and what has been getting in the way. We will help you understand the most appropriate next step.
No. You do not need to get fit before coming to Familia. We meet you at your current starting point and help you build movement, strength and confidence progressively. Many of our clients are returning after a long break, managing pain or rebuilding a routine around a busy life.
If Familia is a suitable fit, your next step will normally be a Familia Foundation Session. During this session, we learn more about how you move and where you are starting. It includes a movement analysis, an Evolt Body Composition Scan and a review of your goals and starting point. This helps us assess before we prescribe.
Yes. Your complimentary consultation gives you an opportunity to visit Familia Fitness, meet us, ask questions and understand how our coaching works before deciding what is right for you.
Yes. The 21-Day Familia Reset is our personalised introductory experience for new clients. It combines a Foundation Session, movement analysis, Evolt body scan, private coaching, two weeks of semi-private coaching, a Nutrition Spotlight and a 21-day Academy pathway for $247.
Coaching & Memberships
Familia provides coaching, structure and a pathway—not simply access to equipment. We assess before we prescribe, consider your movement, pain, confidence, lifestyle and recovery, and adjust your training as you progress. Our trainers actively coach you rather than leaving you to work everything out alone.
The Familia Method is our progressive coaching pathway. It helps clients build the right skills at the right time, beginning with movement foundations and awareness before progressing through strength, performance and higher-level goals. You begin at the level that matches your current needs—not where you think you should already be.
Semi-private coaching gives you an individualised training program within a supportive small-group environment. You follow the program designed for your body and goals while receiving active guidance, technique coaching and progression from a trainer.
Yes. Private training is available for people who need or prefer one-to-one coaching. It may be suitable when someone needs greater privacy, more individual support or a highly tailored approach.
Yes. General gym access is available for confident, independent members who are comfortable training without a coach supervising every session. Weekly direct debit, three-month upfront and short-stay options are available.
You do not need to make that decision alone. Book a complimentary consultation and we will discuss your goals, preferred level of support, experience, availability and budget before recommending an appropriate starting point.
Pain & Movement
Often, yes. You do not necessarily need to wait until every symptom has disappeared. We begin by understanding your history, current movement and the advice you have received from your healthcare professionals. Training can then be modified to suit your current capacity. If your needs fall outside our scope, we may recommend that you speak with a physiotherapist, Exercise Physiologist or another appropriate health professional first.
Exercise should be appropriate to your current capacity. We use a gradual, pain-aware approach and adjust movements, range, load and exercise selection where needed. We cannot diagnose or treat a medical condition, so new, severe or unexplained symptoms should be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Yes. Familia collaborates with allied health professionals where appropriate so clients can have a clearer, more supported pathway between clinical care and ongoing fitness coaching.
Yes, where appropriate and with your permission. Collaboration can help ensure that your exercise plan reflects relevant clinical recommendations and supports a safe transition into ongoing training.
Some health conditions, symptoms, recent procedures or injuries may require medical or allied health clearance before you begin or progress. We will let you know if further guidance is needed after discussing your health history. This website does not provide individual medical advice.
Sessions & Bookings
Our website timetable provides an easy overview of available sessions. As schedules can change, TeamUp remains the live source for current availability and bookings.
Bookings are managed through TeamUp. Once your membership or pass is active, log in to your TeamUp account, select an eligible session and reserve your place.
Yes. Session numbers are limited so that our trainers can provide appropriate supervision and coaching. Please reserve your place through TeamUp before attending.
Please cancel through TeamUp as early as possible so your place becomes available to another member. Any applicable cancellation conditions will be displayed in TeamUp or provided with your membership information.
First try the password reset option on TeamUp. If you still cannot access your account, contact Familia Fitness and include the name and email address connected to your membership so we can help identify the issue.
The most suitable trial option depends on the session and your experience. Contact us or book a complimentary consultation before attending so we can make sure the session is appropriate and your TeamUp access is correctly arranged.
Seniors
The program is designed for adults aged 60 and over who want to improve or maintain strength, balance, mobility, confidence and independence in a welcoming, closely supervised environment.
Familia offers three Seniors session options:
Advanced Seniors—for experienced participants who are ready for a greater training challenge.
Seniors—a circuit-based session supporting strength, fitness, balance and falls prevention.
Chair Seniors—chair-based exercise using dumbbells and resistance bands for people who need more support or have less mobility.
That is completely fine. We will help determine the most appropriate Seniors session based on your movement, confidence, experience and current health needs.
Possibly. Chair Seniors is designed to offer additional support, but suitability depends on your individual needs and ability to participate safely. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss the session and whether further health guidance is required.
The Seniors page includes session descriptions, the current program timetable and links to available membership options. TeamUp displays live availability.
Nutrition & Body Scans
A Nutrition Spotlight is a practical 30-minute session with Jodie. It helps you understand your current nutrition needs, ask questions and identify simple, realistic next steps that fit your lifestyle. It is a supportive conversation, not a strict meal plan or quick-fix diet.
The Nutrition Spotlight focuses on practical general guidance, habits and realistic next steps within the provider's professional scope. It is not a substitute for individual medical nutrition therapy. Where clinical dietetic support is required, we may recommend an appropriately qualified health professional.
An Evolt scan provides information about body composition and helps identify meaningful changes that may not be visible on ordinary scales. Results are discussed in context and can be used alongside measures such as strength, movement quality, confidence, consistency and personal goals.
Available appointment options are shown in TeamUp. Use the booking link to view current dates and availability, or contact us if you are unsure whether the scan is suitable for you.
For the most useful comparison between scans, follow the preparation instructions supplied with your TeamUp appointment confirmation. Try to complete repeat scans under similar conditions. Body-composition results provide information and trends; they are not a medical diagnosis.
General Gym Access
General gym access is best for confident, independent gym users who can train safely without ongoing supervision. If you are new to exercise, uncertain about technique, managing pain or would benefit from a personal program, a coached option may be more suitable.
Available options include weekly direct debit, a three-month upfront membership and casual short-stay access. Visit the General Gym Access page for current information and the relevant TeamUp links.
Yes. Short-stay options include a one-week casual gym pass and a seven-day semi-private all-access option. The seven-day all-access pass includes general gym access, an Evolt Body Composition Scan and eligible classes, including semi-private coaching, Stretch and Yoga, HIIT and Bootcamp. It is designed for visitors who want more support and variety during a short stay.
No. Standard general gym access is for independent training and does not automatically include semi-private coaching or group classes. Choose the seven-day semi-private all-access pass if you are visiting for a short period and want access to the included coached sessions.
Access is subject to Familia Fitness operating and access arrangements. Please review the conditions attached to your TeamUp membership or contact us before purchasing if you require access at particular times.
